Sliding Rock Sliding Rock is a naturally occurring 60-foot waterslide with a seven-foot deep pool that has been developed by the US Forest Service into a recreation area. Sliding Rock is extremely popular on hot summer weekends. But, as the picture above shows, there are those willing to slide even on cool fall weekends. You can either slide yourself or watch others do it from an observation deck opposite the slide.
Cost to enter the recreation area is $1.00 per person. The recreation area is open year-round, but the bathrooms and changing rooms are only open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Lifeguards are on duty during that time as well.
For more information, please contact the National Forest Service office which oversees the Pisgah National Forest at 828-877-3350. To learn more about recreation and camping opportunities in the National Forest, check out their recreation website.
The closest camping area to Sliding Rock is the National Forest Service's Davidson River Campground. You can reserve a site in the campground here.
Directions: From the intersection of US 276 and US 64 in Pisgah Forest, NC, go about eight miles north on US 276. You will pass Looking Glass Falls on the right after five miles. Look for signs directing you to the Sliding Rock recreation area parking lot on the left.
