Shoal Creek
Shoal Creek Falls are very elusive to view. You can hear them from the road, but dense vegetation prohibits any good views during the spring, summer or fall. That may be different in the winter, but I doubt it. The falls are on private property, and the couple that owns the land gave me permission to take the photo above from an old cabin below the falls. A hike to the base of the falls looked rather treacherous, and I did not want to attempt it at the time.
Directions: From Brevard, take US 276 about eight miles south to Cedar Mountain. Turn left onto Cascade Lake Road and follow for 2.5 miles. Turn right onto Staton Road (look for the AGFA Plant sign) and follow for 4.7 miles. You can here the falls in the woods at a pull-off.
